The Rich History of Rodeo in the U.S.
Rodeo isn’t just a trend; it is a way of life. Beginning in the 18th century, Spanish vaqueros brought the life of a cowboy to the world. Early rodeo competitions focused on the skills of handling cattle. A hundred years later, the sport had exploded. The first official rodeo took place in Prescott, Arizona, in 1888. The first official rodeo association, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), was founded in 1929. It has set the standards for the rules and regulations in the sport.
Today, several associations are supporting the sport:
-
International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA)
-
Women’s Profession Rodeo Association (WPRA)
-
State and Regional Associations
